Merlin Entertainments posts positive results

Merlin Entertainments Group has released its financial results for the year ending 26 December 2009, showing that the company is starting to recover from the global economic crisis.

Revenue increased 16.1 per cent to £769 million. Like-for-like revenue also improved, climbing 12.9 per cent to £720.2 million.

The company's EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization or enterprise multiple) increased to £238.6 million, which represents an increase of 16.6 per cent.

Attendance across Merlin's portfolio also improved, increasing 9.7 per cent to 38.5 million.

"In the midst of a deep global recession we welcomed over three million more visitors to our attractions and recorded the ninth straight year of double-digit percentage growth in historical EBITDA in our core businesses", Chief Executive Nick Varney said.

Merlin also reported a 60 per cent jump in annual pass purchases.
